Earn Royalties from Your Music with TuneCore

If you are a musician or artist who is looking to sell your music online, then you might want to investigate TuneCore: Digital Music Distribution as a possibly source of royalty income or residual income. TuneCore offers musicians, producers and artists who create high quality music to sell their music or videos through online stores such as iTunes, Amazonmp3, Shock Hound, Rhapsody, Napster, Amie Street, Groupie Tunes, emusic and lala. The best part is that you get to keep 100% of the royalties earned from your songs.
TuneCore boasts that they don’t take any of the royalties earned by the artists through digital distribution. In fact, they have delivered over 575,000 songs to iTunes and Tune Core customers have earned over $30 million dollars in residual income or royalty income.
This is a great way to make money online if you are a musician who is looking for your big break. It can be hard enough to get stuff heard in your local markets and many local radio stations are stringent on what songs they will play in their market. With TuneCore you can reach a global audience almost immediately and the more you market your songs – the more money you can make.
So you must be wondering, how does Tune Core make their money? Well they charge $0.99 per track, $0.99 per store per album, and $19.98 per album per year storage and maintenance. Or you can just put up one song as a single for a flat price of $9.99 per year, all stores included.
So stop waiting for your big break in the music industry and make your own break. Create a song or album that you believe in and upload it on TuneCore and then use all of the internet resources that you have available such as MySpace, Facebook and get the word out about your music. Maybe your song can be the next online hit and you can be rewarded handsomely through residual income earned from TuneCore.

Thanks for the mention. While you’re waiting for reviews (and I’m proud to say there’s a lot of them out there over the last three years we’ve been in business, just about all of them positive), you’re welcome to ask me anything you’d like about TuneCore or the industry. Always happy to answer questions.
We’re trying to help artists, and since we never take more from them than the price of a pizza and a six pack, and we never take their royalties or copyrights or masters, we aim to be the good guys in this business. So far it’s working out great.
Thanks again.

Hi Peter,
Thanks for checking out the R&R blog! TuneCore sounds like it can really help it’s members get some money for their music. If we get any readers with questions – I will send them your way. Let us know about growth/changes with TuneCore, I’d love to hear more about it!
Best regards,
Michael-John Wolfe
My pleasure, Michael-John. We’ve got good stuff in the wings, but what makes me happiest is just seeing artists getting out there, getting heard, getting a chance to define their own success and make it happen.
Thanks!

I have designed software and created a service that tracks every song played across the USA on every radio station and internet in real time. Now an artist can log on and see just how many times their song has been played in any market in the country in real time… Looking For Customers and Investors
Can anyone tell me what the average earnings are per songwriter per year who uploads his or her songs on TuneCore? Is it a $5.00 average, $500 average, $10,000 average per sonngwriter per year? $.50 or $.99 / song doees not really reveal that. And how much do the top 20 songwriters / singers earn each per year? Please clarify.
Thanks!
Fredd
Fredd, numbers like this are misleading. We do have some very high-marquee artist, like NIN and Aretha Franklin and Jay-Z. Obviously, their numbers are going to be enormous. On the other end of the scale, we do have people who put their music into the stores with no intention of selling much, simply because they want to be there–they don’t market themselves, don’t build a fan base, etc. It’s a perfectly valid choice, but again, it throws off the numbers.
Further, you ask about SONGWRITERS, which is totally different from account holders. After all, it’s up to the person who manages the account’s money to pay songwriters whatever their arrangement demands. So ultimately, no distributor is ever going to have numbers like that for you.
Hope this helps!

Hi Peter!
Thanks for your response, but could you be more specific on part of the question? I understand your concern that the average may be skewed by the extremely high numbers at the very top, but how much did the top 20-40 performers / artists each earn last year? I am not looking for names, unless you want to volunteer them.
Thanks Fredd

tunecore is a f**king scam they will secretly take money out of your payments, the hidden percentage is what i called it the facts will come out soon.
I will let tunecore respond to this one!
MJ
With pleasure, MJ.
We abide by our Terms and Conditions, and they’re very clear: no hidden fees and never a percentage. I’m quite happy to let months and years go by, as they already have, with no “facts” coming out, because they don’t exist.
We paid out $40 million to artists last year alone. They seem to be very happy. We’re among the largest catalogs in the world now, and project to eclipse EMI in share by the end of the year. Somehow, the worst we ever see is an occasional citation-free mini-rant on blogs.
So let’s do just as they ask and wait: we’ll keep helping artists, paying them 100% of their earnings and letting people into an industry that was heretofore closed off to most musicians. Let’s see if the next five years have been as amazing and happy as the last.
Thanks!

As a new and upcoming independent artist who has mad a somewhat vast financial investment in my triple complilation cd I was having a very good feel when I came across Tunecore as another source of distribution for my Genre – Erotic Poetry enfused with Music. But after my research and running across all these accusations, I am somewhat taken aback and is now very reserved in my elation. I would not mind Peter Wells or Jake Smith or even Tia Morita sending me an email that includes a telephone number so that I can have a person to person conversation that may or may not subside my fears. Basically I need some additional information about Tunecore that will lead me in the right direction and keep me from being one of the negators or negative vibrators in these blogs and ripoff/scam reports. I dwell on Love and Positivity and Negativity is a definete sign of avoidance for me. Look forward to getting an email soon form one of the Tunecore crew. To all of you. God Bless. remember GOOD BUSINESS ETHICS RESULTS IN GOOD RELATIONSHIP AND LIFE’S LONGEVITY. Mz Ologist
PS. Thanks for the comments you all. A newbie like me need all the exposure to the good and the bad for real. So, be sure to hit me up and let me know exactly how you feel about my comment or even about me. I am open to any suggestion that will help expose my CDs and my Poetry of Erotesy(c). With LOVE and RESPECT there is less STRESS. God Bless – Mz Ologist
Hi Mz Ologist! Thanks for your comment. I am sure that someone from TuneCore will reply to this post and put your fears at ease. Best of luck with your Erotic poetry! I have an erotic poem I am working on, it starts out with “Hickory Dickory Dock…” — now I just need a second line, any advice? Haha – just kidding!
