My Personal Challenge – 333 Articles on eHow in 3 Months

ehow_logo

Last year, I stumbled on the eHow ebook, written by Maria, an eHow member who detailed an interesting account of her pursuit of making money on eHow.  Maria earns at least $1,000 per month in residual income on eHow and her ebook is an amazing tool to help new eHow writers.  This book gives you crucial tips for optimizing your articles for eHow and getting the most earnings out of them.  Writergig – aka “Maria” tells us that you should be able to average at least $3 per month, per article.  Obviously this is a variable and some articles might earn $10 a month and some might earn $1.

I have decided to set a goal for myself to test these strategies.  My goal is to have 333 complete eHow articles by July 1st, 2009.  (Within 3 months)   I already have 10 articles written, so I have 323 to go.  By Writergig’s calculations – 333 articles X $3 per article should net me $1,000 per month in residual income.  Even if I am way off target and my articles only average $1 per month, at the very least I will wind up with $333 per month in residual income.

During these three months I will post my progress in the comments sections below.  Some days I may write 10 articles and some days I may write none.  Each week (Wednesdays) I will post a updated screen shot of my earnings.  You can also visit my eHow profile here: Michael-John Wolfe on eHow

Please take a moment to visit my eHow articles and rate them – I need all the support I can get!

If you plan on writing your own eHow articles, WriterGig’s ebook is a MUST have, you can buy it for only $25 and it will literally triple the earnings your articles will make: Click here to view more details

UPDATE:  Work has gotten very busy for me – I am way behind on this goal and I now have no free time to write articles.  I will no longer be pursuing my goal of 333 articles.  I made it to 110 articles - still a pretty good achievement.  You can see by my earnings below how easily I created $80 in monthly residual income, a number which will only go up each month.  For those of you with similar goals – best of luck!

Your doing great. Ehow is a great place to earn residual income for sharing ideas and knowledge. I have about a little over 400 article to date and have to say that the time has been very well worth it. Good luck in your ehow adventure.

Thank you Amy! I appreciate the words of encouragment. That is great that you have so many articles – how long did it take you to reach that number? I have had to resort to making a list of article topics and saving it for when I have writer’s block. I am up to 40 articles already! I am very interested to see how much monthly residual income 333 article will garner.

    Best,

    Michael-John

    Howdy!
Glad I found your blog – I just bought the ebook a couple of days ago, and I have it say it is easily worth the price
I will be tracking your 333 challenge – I set the same goal for myself after seeing that number in the ebook.
I’m coming at this from a different angle – i have 4 ecommerce sites, and this is a whole new way to use the net for me.

  4. admin 31 March 2009 at 4:44 pm #

Thanks for joining me in the 333 challenge! Good luck Dave! It has only been a week for me and I am up to 57 articles. I will post my new updated earnings tommorow. FYI – I have found it helpful to carry around a notepad and make notes whenever I come up with an article idea. I am noticing that ideas are getting harder to think of! Let us know how you do…

    Best,

    Michael-John

Great goal….I am working on a similar goal for ehow. I am at 39 articles and hope to be at 100 by the end of April and hit 300 this summer…haven’t set the goal date for that yet. Good luck with your pursuit…I will follow along to see how you are doing and will read and rate on your articles.
    Good luck!

Neat post about eHow. I’ve been writing for them too, but slowly. Keep up the good work, your friend from ehow, chocolate00

This is a great blog! Thanks! 5 STARS … lol

I have only been on eHow since early February 2009. No matter what data I have been able to get from other eHow members (about 30 members so far) and sources outside of eHow, it appears that as a general guideline, writers earn about 30 to 50 cents per article per month

Figure 300 articles x .40 = $120 per month; Sounds good to me. Of course, a select few on eHow make $1,000 or more per month.

I have been entering data into Excel every day to track my perfoamce and that of 5 other eHow members that give me their data routinely. Although data from 5 others is not adequate to determine dependable statistics, data taken over six months should allow me to determine if I have succeeded in getting a close enough estimate.

Don’t be discouraged! I intend to keep writing on eHow. In the long run it should pay off.

Thanks Donna! Let us know if your reach 100 articles by the end of April. I would love to hear about your earnings if you are willing to share…

Thanks Chocolateoo! I appreciate the support! :) MJ

Hey LanWanMan – that is great that you are doing that research. Please let me know what you come up with as a final estimate per article. Honestly, i think if a writer does SEO correctly and chooses the right categories for articles – he or she should at least make $1 per article. I would be very dissapointed with .40 cents per article. That is why WriterGig’s ebook is so important – she actually is averaging $3 per article and she literally shows you what to do.

But who know, I could be wrong – I guess I will find out in a few months!

I am now over 70 articles, but my motivation was waning yesterday – I have to get re-energized!

I think ehow can be a great source of additional income, but I do not think it’s wise to think you’re guaranteed the articles will continue to earn indefinately. Some will go up, some down. Plus who’s to say eHow will continue to pay the high share of revenues? It is possible they are offering a higher share of revenue to build up the site’s content and membership.

  12. debbie 6 May 2009 at 3:13 pm #

Hi, Dave , I just started on ehow and you have inspired me, theres is nothing like residual income, my goal it to be able to pay my rent each month with residual income.

  13. Gabrielle 17 June 2009 at 8:41 am #

    Hi Dave,
I really like this site and yes, you are right with your math. It is happening to me too. I make gradally more money each month. Have 60 articles now and are trying to reach at least 200 soon. It’s not going that fast as I thought though but it depends on the article. Some make more money, some don’t. I started a blog too. Check it out. I still have to add some content. Ehow is fun! greetings :-)

  14. admin 18 June 2009 at 3:29 pm #

I guess I need to change my name to “Dave” – haha, not sure why everyone is calling me that!

  15. Julie @ Write for eHow 25 June 2009 at 1:14 pm #

Great post. The residual income that eHow generates is the best part. I haven’t been able to write much for several months but still earn about $150/month in completely passive income.

  16. Detorreon Pla 25 June 2009 at 2:55 pm #

Could you make a way where this site can have affiliates promote it for revenue share. I am very interested.

  17. Captain eHow 18 August 2009 at 7:03 am #

How is your monthly eHow income these days? $80 after only is great, which is why I love eHow. There are very few other passive income methods that give you that bang for your buck (or hour) so to speak and are that consistent.

  18. John D - eHow Experience 19 August 2009 at 11:31 pm #

That was a really ambitious eHow goal.

If you’ve been caught up with other productive endeavors that’s definitely a positive thing.

Looks like you have a lot of good things working for you, including building off of the things you’re most interested in.

I think the idea and even more so the hook on your working actor book is very smart.

I have tried to set numerous lofty goals when it comes to writing quota, Ive found by doing that i actually end up with less motivation the next day if I fall behind on that goal. I plugged out an estimated 34 articles last month for Ehow alone and about 8-9 for AC. What cuts down my time considerably now is typing out my articles on MS word instead of using the clunky template Ehow provides. If I’m on a roll I can produce a decent article in 15 minutes or less. I like Ehow a great deal and when I find something that works then I stick to it. I do think it will be in my best interest to diversify a little when it comes to freelance writing but I’m still doing my research on what companies would be the best fit and of course the highest paying. Love the Blog, keep up the good work!

  20. Katherine 17 October 2009 at 6:00 pm #

Well, congratulations on making it as far as you did – the number of articles you wrote is still great!

  21. Tom 31 October 2009 at 9:44 am #

Ambitious goal, yes – don’t give up – just change your timeline! I’m doing something similar, but at Associated Content. I’m pushing to get to 100 articles – I won’t stop there, but I’ve read from more than 1 internet article writer that 100 is the ‘critical mass’ where earnings start to really pick up.

  22. admin 2 November 2009 at 11:20 am #

Thanks Katherine! I am starting to see my monthly earnings rise to a pretty decent amount. I do need to write some more – I have just been too busy!

  23. admin 2 November 2009 at 11:26 am #

Thanks John – sorry this reply is so late! I have been very busy setting up another business and I have been neglecting my blog. I hope that your ehow and AC earnings have been doing well. Can you update us on your current earnings or status?

  24. admin 2 November 2009 at 11:31 am #

Honestly, I have been so busy setting up another company – that my blog has really suffered! I hope to turn things around by posting at least once a week!

  25. Lisa 2 November 2009 at 4:04 pm #

I can only hope to be as successful as you are, this is so terrific. I keep meditating and trying to get ideas for new articles and websites, it’s making me crazy.
Continued success to you. Thanks for the invite here.

  26. admin 2 November 2009 at 4:26 pm #

Thanks for the words of encourgement Lisa! I know how you feel, I completely slacked off on this blog and pursuing money online for months. I can “only hope” to be as successful as bloggers like Pat from “Smart Passive Income” or people like Shoemoney on John Chow. I will tell you that I’ve learned that consistency is their secret. I think it is the same with eHow!

  27. khrista 3 November 2009 at 8:40 am #

I agree that eHow is definitely a good place to get some extra cash. I’m not so good on the keywords though. I wrote 400 articles (in 2 accounts) in 3 months. I broke $200 last month, but it’s nowhere near $3/article/month. Any suggestions from eHow winners?

  28. JadeDragon 1 December 2009 at 6:52 pm #

Great blog. I’m one month new on eHow and I read WriterGig’s very helpful book too. I’m finding that many articles are not yet earning anything, but I hit a few home runs that have given me nearly all my earnings so far. A few well placed backlinks were responsible for those articles taking off. However, I don’t know if those links will keep driving good traffic after the loyal readers of the backlinked websites have all read the articles. Too early to see if the SEO is working yet.

  29. MJ Wolfe 2 December 2009 at 5:38 am #

Thanks! How many backlinks are you doing per article? Has this really paid off? My articles have zero backlinks – maybe I should add some. Do you use an article website for getting links? Like articleranks?

  30. Janet Ford 17 January 2010 at 8:55 am #

Great job on your earnings. Enjoyed reading your experiment. I’ve been with ehow for just over 2 yrs. I not only pay my mortgage each month, I cover my utilities as well… and groceries and even took an 18 day road trip this past summer, thanks to saving my extra ehow money. :) I have 545 articles as of this writing, as you can see if you click my name.

  31. MJ Wolfe 17 January 2010 at 9:05 am #

Hi Janet – Wow! That’s a lot of articles! I wish I had your perserverence! Are you at all worried about eHow changing the structure of their payouts? Just curious. My fear is to write 500 articles and then have eHow cut their payouts. Also, did you lose any articles when eHow did their “house cleaning” and removed some articles? Maybe you will motivate me to get writing for eHow again!
