Now that's a bunch of beans :) If i ever heard it. Google bought it and did something good with it. I don't believe that buying and selling domains are either ethical or unethical. You're not taking food from babe's mouths, not would you be tricking anyone. I think you are right - if you want to buy and sell domains - do it. Don't buy the one and not the other because of some argument? You're buying words - dot coms - virtual stuff. There's a great market. I have all of mine as blogs and on the market. Why not?

You are right, I was thinking about what was the ethical thing to do at first. But, I would not have minded a check from Google!

I am definitely going to Tweet this story! You did the right thing for not trying to profit from it. I wouldn't want to profit from it as I think it is not ethical to do.

Also, make sure it is something that will last. 1 year later, that keyword "Haiti Earthquake" might only get very little amount of search. Don't just buy a domain based on trend, but buy something and work on it based on something that will last.
