January 2010 – Earnings Report
Welcome to my first of many monthly earnings reports! Below is a list of all of the sources of residual income and royalties that I have earned for the month of January. I made $547.66 this month, which is not bad when you consider the fact that I don’t sell any physical products. Yes, I write articles and sell them online and yes, my photographs earn income from the microctock websites – but these earnings have all been made with out any physical handling of products.
At this point I don’t even have an ebook for sale, which as many of you know can be a big boon to a blogger’s earnings. People like Pat Flynn from Smart Passive Income have earned a large portion of their monthly earnings from the sale of an ebook. This is something that I may pursue in the future.
This month’s figure of $547.66 is what I would consider low – I have had a month of over $900 in residual income, but recently I have stopped submitting articles to places like Constant Content and eHow. I also have not submitted a new photo on any of the microstock websites in many months. This will all be changing by the spring of 2010 -which hopefully you will see in my next few monthly earnings reports.
My immediate goal is to be paying off my entire mortgage ($1,593) with my total monthly earnings. I will set a target to reach this goal by the end of the calender year 2010. My ultimate goals are much higher! Below is a breakdown off all of my sources of online income. This may seem like a lot of “separate streams” of income – but just remember, one payment of $1,000 is the same as 20 payments of $50. It does not matter to me how many payments I receive, the only thing I care about is the total earnings. I have also included a video that shows my Google adsense check for this earnings period.

Don’t you use PTC sites? If not then why? they can add some valuable bucks in your earnings. However if you are really interested in signing up some legitimate PTC sites, I wish you choose me as a referrer. I know you must have great knowledge about PTC sites even then contact my email address for signing up as my referral. Anyway do state the reason why you have not signed up yet in any PTC site.
Hi Saad, no I have not used any PTC sites. In fact, I don’t even know what they are. Can you tell me more about this? What does PTC stand for? I guess I have some learning to do!
MJ
Congratulations on your royalty stream.
Perhaps I should look into this e-article concept and write a few about how royalties work for books and music. I could educate as well as promote awareness of our software.
Cheers,
Greg
Hi Greg, I would love to learn more about how royalties work for books and music. The only experience that I have from book royalties is through a self-published book via AuthorHouse – I can imagine that having a true publisher would make a world of difference! It looks like DashBook is a good system for tracking royalties!

That’s really surprising for me that you haven’t heard about PTC sites. Surprising because I thought you are a pro. You know what? Indeed you are a pro but there’s always a room for learning. Coming to PTC sites, PTC stands for paid to click. On these websites you are paid for every click (as the name suggests). A misfortune about these site is that almost 98% of these are scam. But positive side is that 2% of sites really pay.
You are paid a nominal amount for about 0.001 to 0.02 per click. This may seem to be bit low but a person can make hundreds of dollars by referring people and effective planning like upgrading your membership or renting referrals. The best thing is that you have to utilize only 5-10 minutes per site per day and if you have a good amount of referrals, you will surely make handsome money at the end of the day. But remember, patience and never giving up is the key.
If you are really interested in joining any one of legitimate and paying PTC site, please inform me and I will provide you my referral links in the comments section. I wish you be my referral this will cost you nothing.
Thanks.
Thanks Saad! Please place your referral link in the comments sections and I will check it out! Hopefully, some of my readers will join through your link too. I would like to know about the 2% of sites that are legit.

Hi Michael its me again I have just updated my post about one of the best PTC site neobux. You can gain information through the following link.

Michael,
This is awesome. It is great to see you have done so well with residual income. I do have a question. About how many pictures do you have on the various microstock photo websites? Making around $40-$50 a month is not bad at all. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and hope to hear from you soon.
Vinny
Hey Vinny! (or maybe I should say “Yo” Vinny – haha) I currently have 353 images on Shutterstock. You can view my portfolio here: Michael-John Wolfe On the other microstock websites I have a lot less. I am guessing that I have about 100 images on iStockphoto, this is not because I have not submitted all of my images, it is because they are much more stringent on what photos they will accept. Many of my images were rejected by iStockphoto. Shutterstock is by far my largest portfolio. I literally have like 5 images on Fotolia, I am hoping to find the time to submit the rest of my photos to them. The key is to keep consistently submitting images – otherwise your monthly earnings will continue to drop exponentially. Keep us posted if you decide to pursue microstock photography!

This is a very helpful post, Michael. I didn’t know before that taking photos can be a source of income. I am currently looking for revenue-sharing content sites where I could submit my articles and earn passive income. Can you tell me which is better? Constant Content or eHow?
Thanks!
Michael(MJ?),
Thanks for the response. “Yo Vinny” is fine…haha. Microstock photography is something that I have been thinking for a while. I will certainly let you know if I pursue this more in depth. What types of cameras do you recommend? Also, how has your acting gone? Thanks!
Vinny
I would consider eHow more of a “passive income” website, since you get paid every month for your articles. But I believe that a prolific writer can earn higher monthly income on CC. The only thing about CC is the fact that you don’t know for sure if you article will get sold. I have written 71 articles on CC an sold 46 of them so far. I would guess that the average article sale for me on CC would be about $25 in profit. Almost every eHow article creates some sort of earnings – even if it is a very small amount. I would say that there is no clear cut better choice between CC and eHow. Why not write for both websites and diversify your income streams? Check out my blog post entitled “The 14 Minute Constant Content Article” – it may interest you! Good luck!

I use a 12 megapixel Canon xsi SLR – I have three lenses for it. I actually bought it through a “kit” on ebay. It was about $1,100 for the whole set up. Acting has been okay, I have an audition for Steven Soderbergh’s KNOCKOUT next week. It’s just a small cop role – I’ll let you know if I book it! It stars Ewan McGregor, Dennis Quaid and Michael Douglas. It shoots in Santa Fe, New Mexico – so that would be a fun place to visit.
MJ
MJ,
Thanks for the info. on the camera. I will look at it more in depth so that I can get my photography goals in order. On your audition, good luck. It will be great to see you on the big screen if you book it. Again, best of luck. I am sure you will do well.
Vinny
