Make Money Online Writing for Break Studios
If I have one online addiction, it would be my time spent each day on Break.com. If you have never visited Break – you should put aside some time and check it out. While I will say that their website is geared more towards a male audience, anyone can find enjoyment in the thousands of funny videos on Break. Each day a new lot of videos go live on Break’s homepage and many of these videos consist of people falling, getting hurt or doing stupid things. I’m not sure why this is so funny – but it’s usually hysterical! If someone went through the millions of videos on YouTube and only selected the funniest videos and put them on a website - this website would be Break.com.
The same people who brought us Break.com have now added a writing division called “Break Studios” and I just put in my application with them. I looked at most of the available topics and many of them are geared towards men and men’s issues. I am not sure if many women would want to write for Break Studios – but if they did “relationships” looked like a big category when I was signing up.
At this point I don’t know how many articles are available to claim or how long these articles are expected to be. I also don’t know what Break Studios is currently paying their authors. Hopefully, if I am accepted – I will be able to provide more details. If any of my readers currently write for Break Studios – please let us know approximately how much you earn per article and how many topics are available to claim. Hopefully, this will wind up being a good way for freelance writers to make money online!

I know it’s been just under a week but whats the status on Break Studios? Is it legit and is there money to be made?
I think the jury is still out on Break Studios – I have had too much going on to try and write anything for them. Hopefully, one of my readers who writes for Break Studios will comment and let us know their feedback and earnings results. If you try it, please come back and let us know how you did and how much they pay per article.
Thanks,
MJ
I’ve been doing it for a couple of weeks and have had only one article accepted (I’ve only written one article. Kind of wanted to test the waters, you see).
They pay $8.00 for an article of 250-700 words. The one I had accepted was about 300 words. It took a few days for the article to be edited. As I said I haven’t been with them long enough to receive a paycheck, but so far so good. I’ll let you know how it goes.
Thanks for letting us know Marjorie. 1 for 1 means you are batting 1,000! Keep us posted on your progress with Break Studios.
MJ
I joined Break Studios a few weeks ago (writing mostly health articles – perfect choice for the hypochondriac), but I haven’t gotten paid yet because…well…I’m a little bit iffy about giving them my SSN, which they need in order to pay the writers. I don’t know how legitimate their site is. But yes, the pay is $8 per article, with a 250 word minimum and a 700 word maximum. Some have deadlines, and some do not.
The only downside is you can only work on a maximum of 5 articles at a time. There are loads and loads of articles I would love to work on just in the health section, but I can’t because of the article limit. I asked them why there was a limit and I never got a response. They also take quite a long time to review submitted work.
Thank you for giving us some info on Break Studios! Many of us were wondering about them. I would not be too worried about giving them your SSN – Break has been around for a while, I doubt you will have a problem. Has the work you have submitted been accepted already?
MJ
MJWolfe,
Thanks very much for letting me know that Break is most likely not a shady place looking for suckers (I personally had never heard of it until I found out they were looking for writers). As far as stuff being accepted, I’ve gotten three articles approved that are now awaiting publication. I’ll let you know when and if I get paid for my work.
Sweet – let us know how much they pay you for those three articles! Hopefully, they will all get published.
MJ
My girlfriend and I both write for break studios. She’s been paid for about half of her submissions already, I’ve been paid for none of mine yet (but that’s because I didn’t get around to writing about them until recently).
Now they let you claim up to ten articles, and my girlfriend says they’re getting quicker with approving articles every time she submits a batch.
The reason break was taking so long to approve articles earlier this month and last month was because their writing division has just started. As time goes on, they hire more and more editors to edit submissions. Their goal, apparently, is to get to a turnaround time of 24 hours.
So far, break is legit. I have no complaints, and neither does my girlfriend. But hey, if they get their turnaround time to 24 hours, that potentially means that one could earn 80 bucks a day writing for them. Maybe that doesn’t cut it for some people, but for a couple of college students, 80 bucks a day is a pretty good deal.
Oh yeah, and their editors are very nice. Expect your first few articles to be returned to you for edits, but once you get the hang of writing for them, fewer and fewer articles get returned for edits.
Hope this helped!
Thanks for letting us know! Combined the two of you can make $160 a day! That’s a lot of Ramen noodles. (Haha, sorry – college joke!) Seriously though, I appreciate your feedback, I may have to get off my butt and start submitting some Break articles. 24 hours would be an amazing turn around time, many of my articles sit for a whole week on other content websites before getting looked at. Best of luck to you and your girlfriend.

I’m finding that Break rejects articles for sometimes vague reasons. Often times, the reasons for rejection are, “Read our guidelines.” First of all, there are several sets of guidelines…keyword, submission, and guidelines for each type of article. They do not specify sometimes. They also often will not come out and say what *exactly* the problem is, so I just have to kind of guess.
The first few times, I realized there were some formatting errors that caused rejections. But I’m finding I’m getting certain articles rejected that seem to follow all Break’s guidelines. I just kind of wish they’d say up-front what’s wrong rather than pussy-footing around and trying to make the writer guess. I agree, the editors are very nice, but I really need to know what the problems are with my articles in order to fix them to the editors’ preferences. I emailed them about this…let’s see if they respond to me this time.
Other than that, not too bad yet. I have been paid for one whole article so far. And the 24-hour turnaround time sounds great; I don’t like waiting a week to be told the article was rejected, and then waiting another week to find out whether or not it was accepted or rejected a second time.
I hope they start giving feedback so that you can make the necessary adjustments and resubmit those articles. Thank you so much for keeping us posted on Break Studios and how it all works!
MJ
I’ve been writing for Break since early February. They have paid me for three articles via PayPal. I’ve written about 12 others, and most of them have been approved, but I haven’t been paid yet. They do require rewrites if you don’t follow their formula exactly. Break now allows you to claim ten articles at a time. They are kind of slow with the edits, and the three articles they paid me for haven’t appeared on the site yet. I’m being patient because they seem to be going through growing pains.
The site is mainly for men, but there are all kinds of things to write about in the content pool. I’ve written about health issues such as liver disease and OCD, a travel article about South Dakota, career articles, and an article about what to order in a Japanese Restaurant.
Thanks for the info Lori! It appears that Break is becoming a good place for writers to make some decent cash. This reminds me of Demand Studios when it first started out. Hope you get paid for your other articles soon! Keep us posted on how things progress with Break Studios.
MJ
Hey MJ, back again to give you the breakdown on…well, Break.
Okay, so it seems that they pay you for eight articles at a time. The maximum both my girlfriend and myself have been paid at one time is 64 dollars, even though we had more accepted at the time of payment (however, they paid the rest owed to both of us yesterday, which means they pay about every two weeks).
Break is very picky about the articles they accept. However, there’s really only two rules you need to follow to get your articles accepted.
First, they want the article title in the first line of the first paragraph, verbatim. This can get a little tricky since most of the titles start with “How to…” and some of them are grammatically incorrect, but hey, it isn’t my website they’re getting posted to.
Second, Break LOVES lists. Bullets or numbers, it doesn’t really matter. This makes it really easy to write for them since you don’t really have to follow any sort of structure when writing out a list. All told, we’ve gotten to the point where we can bust out 10 articles in three to four hours. 80 bucks (eventually) for that short of work period is a pretty good deal, if you ask me.
Peace and love brother, keep up the good work! I’m visiting on a regular basis now!
Eric
Thanks for “breakin it down” for us Eric! Sounds like you two are doing pretty good with Break. I love writing with bullet points or articles that have lists, so that works fine for me. $80 in 4 hours is pretty good, if you do that 5 days a week you’d be earning $1,600 a month. I really appreciate you taking the time to give us all this excellent feedback – Peace and love, MJ
Hi,
I contacted Break, and I was told that they pay on the first and fifteenth of every month. If either falls on a Saturday, they pay on the following business day. They pay for all articles that are approved four business days before the due date. My husband and I have 136 in our PayPal account which means they paid us for 17 articles between us. We have some that were approved over the weekend that they will pay us on April 15. I love Break, and I’ve been paid for about 30 articles so far.
Nice work Lori! Looks like you two are knocking out articles on a consistent basis too. So far, all positive reviews for Break Studios writing program. Best of luck!
MJ
I’m doing great on Break. I’m doing at least 2 a day for the past month. For theie April 1st payment, I received $72 for 9 articles via Paypal. I have noticed recently that all my articles for the last 25 articles are accepted on first submission. This is great!!!. I was wondering if anybody knew of a site that has the same or very similar model as breakstudios. If you do let me know or leave it here on this site. Don’t give me the usual sites eveyone knows about like constant content, mahalo or associated content. Please only something that is fresh and new like break. Thank you.
Glad you are having success on Break! I hope that some of my readers can provide you with a fresh, new writing website to try! Good luck!
MJ
I wish to know if Break accepts international writers with a good command of the English language.
I am not sure — have you checked their terms of service? Do any of my readers know the answer to this?
MJ
Thanks for the answer MJ. I went to their site yesterday and registered. Gave in all they asked for, and im now waiting to hear from them.
Not sure, but i think since receipt of the registration was acknowledged by DS, i might be eligible.
However, fingers crossed
Sorry, my mistake. It wasn’t Break. It was Dream.
I’m off to check the TOS as you said.
Thanks MJ
So far, Break Studios has been ok…I would be a lot better if they would review articles sooner. Their guidelines state that it can take up to 72 hours before articles are reviewed and that’s okay. But many of my articles and resubmissions have taken 5+ days. My resubmission has not been approved yet and it has been three weeks. I hear that others are having a greater success, being able to churn out articles faster (as I would like to do) because their dashboard doesn’t have articles clogging up the 10 article limit as mine. I understand that articles may take longer on occasions than 72 hours but three weeks??! Sheesh…I dunno about that
Hi Cameron, sorry you have to wait so long for your articles to be reviewed. Maybe if you stopped writing so fast? Haha — just kidding. Even with the delays, it sounds like you must be semi-happy with Break since you are putting so much effort into writing for them. How many articles are you completing per month? Are there any similar freelance writing websites that you can recommened? Thanks!
MJ
Wellll MJ
I was tryna put in a moderate amount. I mean, I dedicate most of my time to DS…But you know, DS can get kinda tired and stagnant sometimes and I enjoyed the fresh/upbeat topics that BStudios brings. Some of their titles are kinda interesting and so I would like to at least 25% of my monthly, delegated writing time to Break…but they just aren’t working with me lol. I mean, I appreciate editor feedback, but I dunno about some of their rewrites b.c they seem at times…uh…unnecessary. (Sigh)And then the rewrites take like 2.5 weeks to be reviewed lol. I am looking for more freelance writing opportunities.
lol its late: meant to say, “Some of their titles are kinda interesting and so I would like to put in at least 25% of my monthly, delegated writing time to Break..” lol. I’m so going to bed now.
I’ve written for Break Studios this week and I find the format a breath of fresh air compared with Demand Studios. The pay is not as good, but the article topics are interesting and the publishing requirements don’t require sorting through a list of references to post the most appropriate websites for my research. The DS requirement for citations takes at least a third of my time. I also have yet to receive any inane content editing requests to document obvious facts. The last straw for me at DS was the editor request for a source to document that Musso & Frank in Hollywood was a famous restaurant. Hopefully, the editors at DS stay where they are and don’t migrate to BS.
Thanks for your feedback on Break! It looks like most writers are very happy with them. I do remember DS being pretty picky when I wrote for them. Good luck!
MJ
Love your webpage and great photo! I’ve been writing for Break Studios for just 2 weeks and have gotten 20 articles approved, all on the first go-around. I’m not really all that good so I’m guessing they’ve relaxed their rules. Regardless, I like writing there but Break is quite slow in publishing the articles.
I’m wondering if anyone else has figured out a way to track the earnings? I’m concerned about not getting paid for all that are approved. There’s no way on the site to tell. Has anyone figured out an excel spreadsheet or anything? I’d be interested in hearing other ideas. Thanks! Lori
Thank you Lori! I don’t have the answer to your questions – so hopefully one of my readers who knows more about Break Studios will respond to this post soon!
MJ
I have written some articles for Break. My first payment was due into my PayPal account today. It hasn’t made it there yet. I went to Break to see what is up. I had an inbox waiting that stated they are having problems ‘pushing payments’ today and will update by noon tomorrow. Hmmm, not a very good start to a new relationship, but at least they tried to keep us informed.
I saw someone posted a question about tracking earnings. I do this on a Word document. I made a table in Word with a columns for the article title, date submitted, date approved and expected pay date. This makes it easy for me to see what to expect in my PayPal account.
If you write for Break, remember that the cutoff day for article approvals is 4 days prior to the pay date.
I’m still writing for Break. I finally got fed up with having articles rejected and the reasoning being, “Read the guidelines.” I emailed an admin and asked what I was doing wrong…it turned out I was following the guidelines just fine, but there was a minor formatting issue where I was using bulleted lists rather than numbered, and the editors were getting sick of fixing it. Why that was so hard for the editors to say is beyond me, but since then I’ve only gotten one article rejected.
They do take quite a while to accept/reject articles, as well as to pay for them. But I have gotten paid for my work, as I see the transactions in my PayPal account. I also would get emails saying that Break paid me for such-and-such articles.
Hoenstly, I’m content with the work. Nobody will hire me to do what i was actually educated to do, so I’m shutting up my student loan lenders with Break Studios payments. Break is the highest-paying writing site I’ve worked for; I’m very used to writing for less than a dollar an article. Plus, I enjoy the relaxed style; I can talk in a conversational, humorous manner in my work.
I’m quite happy with Break studios. They paid me $184 last night – in fact, they paid on more articles than I had on the schedule. I figured out how to use an excel spreadsheet to tally the articles, paydates and total pay. Working fine. I’ve written 49 articles and had one returned for a rewrite (different editor as the other articles that went through were exactly formatted the same). No problem – sent it back through and approved. I’m loving knowing that I’m getting cash for those little bitty articles as they only require 250 words. I knock em out in about 6 minutes now. Fun. Only problem is you can only claim 10 at a time and their review is sort of slow. But, hey, I consider it free money so it’s all fine with me.
Hi Lori and Shadow – sounds like you both are doing very well with Break! $184 is not a bad payday! Hearing your stories about Break may even prompt me to start writing again!
MJ
Hi, MJ. Just wanted to update you on my Break studios experience. I made a total of just shy of $500 in May (payout should be on Tuesday for the second installment). So, I’m fairly pleased. I’ve got a total of 81 written with some still in review – their review seems to take a while, especially when pay day is approaching. I get the feeling that the site is run by just a few people but they seem to be fairly stable. I’ve only had 3 articles sent back for rewrites and they should have been. One new thing I did notice is that they have a spot on the article submission now where they ask for ‘up to 5′ online sources. This is new and, before, they weren’t as strict that you have to have online sources. But, it’s very simple to go google and find an online source (they want a .org or .gov site – no .com I think – might be making that up). Regardless, if you’re looking for quick, very easy cash, Break is the place to do it. They do have very goofy titles though, geared toward young men. I’ve learned a lot about break dancing….But, hey, it’s paying the vet bills and, with one 3 legged dog and another with a limp this morning, it’s needed (thankfully, there’s 4 still healthy as of this posting…)!
I agree with Lori. BS is a great place to write quick articles. Once I dumbed it down and stopped trying so hard, I started getting hardly any rewrites. Just wish they would add more titles!
Hi Lori and Peg — looks like everyone is happy with writing for Break Studios. This is consisitently one of the most viewed posts on my blog – so they must be doing something right! Thank you Lori – for coming back and giving us an in-depth update, keep them coming!
MJ
I signed up for break studios about two weeks ago. I wrote four articles so far, and all of them were accepted. My second article was sent back to edit because I did not include the title in the first sentence. So far, all is well. BS does not currently accept international workers. I haven’t received my first pay yet, but they are supposed to send it via PayPal on the 15th.
Hi
Great post. I was wondering, do you have to submit tax info before you get paid. I managed to get in as a UK writer, which you are not meant to do which means I do not have an SSN. Is there anyone who would like to use their information while I write the articles, for a cut of the profits?
Cheers
Adam
