Make Money Online Buying and Selling Websites on Flippa

make money online - flippaIf you are someone who loves the process of creating websites, but you don??t necessarily enjoy maintaining those websites ?? you may want to start selling some of your sites on Flippa.  Flippa is an auction style shop that allows users to post their websites for sale.  It is very interesting to go back and look at some of the recently sold websites.  You will see that there is a wide range of sale prices ?? some sites that are selling for a few hundred bucks and some that have sold for tens of thousands.

Sellers can list their traffic figures, Alexa ranking and current monetization methods ?? all in hopes to get a buyer to meet their asking price.  Obviously, the higher the revenue that you can prove your website is generating ?? the higher the asking price will be.

For SEO savvy types, this may be a good opportunity to flip websites for a healthy profit.  I can see how easy it would be to select a niche market and build a website for that niche.  Create traffic to this website by building backlinks and once the site is consistently generating profit in the form of affiliate sales or Adsense revenue ?? you have the option to sell out for some quick cash.

On the other hand, you can also buy an already established website on Flippa.com and help it grow.  Many people don??t want to deal with the headache of launching a website, waiting to get out of Google??s ??sandbox?, climbing the search engines and going through all the steps that it takes to turn a profit.  By buying an established website you can avoid having to complete all those ??set up? tasks and simply start making money immediately.

Overall it looks like buying and selling websites and blogs on Flippa might be a good way to make money online.  If you have sold or bought websites on Flippa or similar auction style websites ?? please let us know by commenting below.  If you have any tips for noobies who are just learning how to flip websites, we would love to hear about it!

This is a pretty cool site to peruse even if you aren’t in the market to buy or sell. It can give you an idea what your site is worth when compared to others. It is amazing what some of these sites go for.

I’m not a fan of Flippa unless you’re trying to sell a site for under $100k. The big boys don’t come out to play on Flippa and I prefer building for the big boys.

i.e. right now I’m working on a six figure sale (hoping for 200k) and I got web site brokers / investment bankers involved because they know where to find the money to buy.

Can you tell us more Chris? Like what kind of site would sell for this much? If you are not comfortable sharing the site that you are building, can you give us a similar example of a site that would sell you $100,000 or $200,000? I’d love to hear more about this – if you have a blog post about it, feel free to put your link in the comments here. Looks like someone got new headshots! :)

flippa’s OK, but I’d recommend SEDO.

To be honest, site-flippin isn’t just what it use to be, and many webmaster forums like DP or Warrior can confirm that.

I think Chris is right in the fact that Flippa is not ideal for high value sites.

We’ve started to establish deals with brokers to offer to our premium members site in the $10K – $800K range that aren’t publicly available, but I guess anything over that needs to be handled by a dedicated team.

Good luck with the Blog MJ.

    Hey MJ,

If the deal works out it won’t be for a few months and odds are it would sell to a company where I would be allowed to disclose the URL etc. so at that time I’ll be sure to do a write up about the entire process.

lol at the headshots comment. I’m starting a photography related website with a friend who’s a pro photographer and he said we needed good about us page photos so he took that one.

Hi Chris — I can’t wait to read that write up! That will be a great read. I actually shoot headshots myself! In fact I have a customer today. Check out my work here: Wolfe Photography I don’t add those earnings into my residual income reports, since it’s not really related.
