Speedy Spots promises “quality, low cost, same day audio production for TV, radio, on hold messages, talking websites, industrial projects, political ads, imaging, talking books, CD ROMS, IVR, and anything that requires a human voice.”  As long as prospective clients choose a voiceover talent who has “Today” marked on their availability – any projects received by 7 pm EDT will be automatically processed for completion by 9 am the following business morning.

This quick turn around time means if you are a talent that is listed on Speedy Spots VO roster, it would behoove you to have the ability to create same day voiceover work.  Looking at the list of talent on Speedy Spots, there is a much smaller pool of talent than Voice123 or Voices.com.  Which I assume would be a good thing for the voice talent and a bad thing for the clientele. 

Not everyone gets accepted to the Speedy Spots talent roster and you have to submit your demo via snail mail to be considered.  While I am not sure if Speedy Spots is a necessity for voice talent who are trying to make money online- it is something to consider.  If you want to make a full time living as a voice talent at home, you definitely have to be a member of both Voices.com and Voice123.  Since I like to give my readers all of the available options – Speedy Spots is just one more avenue for VO talent to investigate.

If you have wanted to try your hand at online voiceover work but you don’t want to fork over a cool three hundred bucks – you may want to consider Voices.com.  This website is similar to Voice123, but they only charge you a monthly fee to join.  This way you can try and submit to some projects for one month without being locked in to a whole year’s fee.  Should you succeed in your first month, you can continue to pursue work on Voices.com.  But if you don’t get any jobs you can simply cancel your monthly subscription without any penalty.

You can join Voices.com for only $29 a month and booking one gig will more than pay for this cost.  Voices.com does not take any percentage out of the jobs that you book.  If you don’t already have one, you will have to invest in a microphone.  It’s a good idea to get a USB condensor mic and simply plug it into your computer.

Once you have your microphone you can download the free Audacity software online and you will then have your own home studio.  To create your own sound booth you can simply go inside a closet full of clothes and set up your computer and mic.  Be sure that there is no background noise and keep the microphone on a stable platform while you speak into it.  Don’t be afraid to record multiple takes of your audition – Audacity will let you delete and re-record with the click of a mouse.  Once you have your completed audtion you can simply export it as an Mp3 file and upload it onto Voices.com.  From there you will submit it to the client and hope for the best.

Don’t be surprised if, after some auditions you get no response - in most cases the client will only respond to the voiceover talent that he or she has chosen for the project.  Remember that you may have to submit to 20 projects before booking a gig.

Have you been told that you have an excellent speaking voice?  Have you ever considered doing voiceovers – but you did not know how to get started in the industry?  The way things used to be, you would have to have a voiceover agent and you would have to go to a studio to produce high quality recordings.  With websites like Voice123.com – things have changed greatly.  You can now record auditions in your own home and simply upload them on your computer and submit them directly to the client.  There are many voiceover artists who are making a full time living from doing voiceovers at home.

To get started, you will need to create a home “sound booth” – otherwise known as a closet!   That’s right!  A simple closet full of clothes can serve as an excellent sound booth.  Make sure that there are no sounds going on in your home.  No fans, crying babies, air conditioning units, etc.  It’s a good idea to tuck a blanket under the crack in your closet door to remove any oustide noise.  You can bring your computer in the closet with you and record your auditions.  You will have to make sure that the fan on your computer is not too loud.  You will need a microphone that produces crisp, clear sound – a USB condensor mic is a great option and you can get one for about $50 on ebay.  You will also need some software to record on, make sure that it produces mp3 files.  Audacity is a great program to use and you can download it for free.

Voice123 does charge a yearly fee, but one voiceover booking alone will pay for this fee.  They do offer a free 30 day trial, so that you can submit to various auditions.  This is a great way to see if you have what it takes to make it in the voiceover marketplace.  Take some time and go through some of the other talent’s demo reels, this way you can see what you are up against.  You will notice that there is some really top notch competition out there.  If any of you are making some decent money on Voice123 – I’d love to hear your success stories.  Some voice talent are unhappy with these type of online voice casting websites, since they tend to bring down the overall pay scale for voice talent – but they do give you access to hundreds of auditions that you might not be privvy to had they not existed.  Overall, if you can cut it as a voiceover talent – it is a great way to make money online!
